Aug 22: Health Triangle


  • Health Triangle = Mental/emotional health, social health, and physical health.  The goal is to have an equilateral triangle where all sides are equal and balanced.  When one area suffers or is strengthened, the other sides are often affected in one way or another.

5 Influences on Health

     1.  Heredity
  • All the traits that were biologically passed onto you from your parents.
    • eye/hair color
    • tendencies towards diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc.
     2.  Environment
  • The sum of your surroundings
    • Physical Environment
      • neighborhood, school safety, air/water quality, access to parks, libraries, medical care, etc.
    • Social Environment
      • all the people around you (family, peers, etc.)
    • Culture
      • the collective beliefs, customes, and behaviors of a group
     3.  Attitude
  • Do you believe adopting healthful habits will influence your life positively?
  • Optimists tend to have better health than pessimists.
     4.  Behavior
  • You 100% control your behavior.  What are you going to DO to make a healthier life for yourself?
  • You can choose to avoid high risk behaviors in favor of healthful ones.
     5.  Media & Technology
  • The media influences our decisions and opinions regarding health.
